Information Exchange: PeopleRichard WrightChair of the Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment (BICE), National Research Council Richard Wright is retired as director of the Building and Fire Research Laboratory, National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) and professor of civil engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been Chairman of the Board on Infrastructure and Constructed Environment of the National Academies, founding Co-chairman of the Subcommittee on Construction and Building of the National Science and Technology Council; Chairman of the Interagency Committee on Seismic Safety in Construction; U.S.-side Chairman of the U.S.-Japan Panel on Wind and Seismic Effects; President of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB); and President of the Liaison Committee of International Civil Engineering Organizations. He received the Federal Engineer of the Year award of the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1998 and the Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research from the Civil Engineering Research Foundation in 1999. He is Honorary Membership of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science. Education: Bachelors (1953) and Masters (1955) of Civil Engineering from Syracuse University, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (1962) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
