Information Exchange: PublicationsBicycle Infrastructure for the 2030’sAuthor: Bill Nye "It’s 1999, and energy is unnaturally cheap. If you’re an observant person with a reasonable level of scientific literacy, you might say, “Stop the madness now: the Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and the electric furnaces.” From behind any windshield our world looks like cars. While having cars everywhere all the time was once a striking symbol of progress and did provide an astonishing level of transportation service to any of us who wanted to go anywhere, these days, a world of cars and places to park cars isn’t so desirable or even possible. We’re getting parked out of our own neighborhoods. I am convinced that if we as a society take steady steps to simplify bicycle commuting, by the year 2030, we could have a significant portion of our workers, say 10%, getting to work in human powered vehicles."
