Biography: Raymond C. Loehr is the Hussein M. Alharthy Centennial Chair and Professor of Civil
Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin. He has served as chair or member of many National Academy of Sciences committees that focused on environmental technology needs, on appropriate aspects of environmental policy, and on the need for sound scientific and engineering approaches by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency. He also has served on environmental advisory committees for USEPA, DOE and other agencies. His teaching and research interests emphasize hazardous and industrial waste management. His current research activities relate to development and use of hazardous waste management technologies for contaminated liquids, slurries, solids, and soils. His specific research involves the transformation, transport, fate, and remediation of chemicals of concern in contaminated soils and sediments. Over the years, Professor Loehr has authored numerous articles and books, and received many awards for his work relating to municipal, industrial, and hazardous waste management.
