Description: Spatial data are collected by many public and private organizations. Digital geospatial data come in a number of forms, including digital images, vector maps, and database files associated with a point, line or area. Table 3.1 lists some of the common formats of geospatial data that are collected and/or created by federal organizations such as the USGS 1 and the EPA Envirofacts 2 . Data sets are also available through local government agencies, such as state departments of environmental protection (DEP), county GIS databases, and county assessor’s offices, as well as private organizations and academic institutions.
